The Martin Luther King Jr. Freedom Breakfast

The Martin Luther King Jr. Freedom Breakfast is Athens, Georgia’s premier celebration of the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King. The breakfast is an annual partnership between The University of Georgia, Athens – Clarke County Unified Government, and the Clarke County School District. The breakfast brings together approximately 600 individuals from The University of Georgia and Clarke County communities and is also used as a time to acknowledge the diversity achievements and contributions of members of the Athens-Clarke County/UGA community.

President’s Fulfilling the Dream Award

The President’s Fulfilling the Dream Award highlights the work of local community members and UGA faculty, staff and students who have made significant contributions to social justice, race relations, justice or human rights. Award winners demonstrate commitment to volunteerism and civic engagement in addressing critical community issues; utilize King’s philosophy to reduce tensions, resolve conflict and foster goodwill; and apply King’s teachings to build bridges of understanding and unity.

Workshops & Consulting

The Office of Institutional Diversity provides workshops and consulting to promote inclusion by offering strategies to create a welcoming climate. Workshops and seminars are interactive, providing participants with opportunities to engage in discussion and activities that further their understanding of diversity and inclusion at the University of Georgia.

The Peach State LSAMP Summer Bridge Institute

The Peach State LSAMP "Building Bridges" Summer Institute hosts incoming minority STEM freshmen for a three-week long residential program. The students will participate in professional development, academic enrichment, and social engagement activities designed to facilitate their transition from high school to the university setting.

Movimiento Latino

The purpose of the daylong even, Movimiento Latino, is to encourage talented admitted students to commit to the University of Georgia. During the program on campus, admitted high school seniors will interact with faculty, students and campus leaders. In addition, they will have the opportunity to attend classes, visit University housing, and eat in the dining hall.

Georgia Daze aims to encourage talented, historically underrepresented students to enroll at the University of Georgia. During this weekend prospective students are exposed to classes, faculty, campus leaders, University Housing, Student Affairs, special opportunities, dining halls, and the many extracurricular activities that the University of Georgia has to offer.

Connections is a program to help support students in their first year. The purpose of the program is to increase the retention and success of historically underrepresented minorities at The University of Georgia.
